Eleven years ago, a Boston woman got a dog to help her process the loss of a family member. But though that dog, Rex, indeed helped her feel better, the little Yorkie was quickly stolen, leaving Marzena feeling even worse than before.
Thankfully, Rex wasn’t stolen before Marzena took him to get a microchip. This stroke of genius would pave the way for the pair’s eventual reunion, although it wouldn’t take place for another decade.
“Warner Bros., Paramount, Disney & Universal Studios may we have your attention please?“ the Stoughton Police Department wrote on Facebook. “You have never created a movie with this type of incredible ending.”
As the years passed, Marzena eventually gave up hope that she’d ever see her beloved pup again. But then one day, the Boston woman got a surprising call.
Animal control had picked up a disheveled Yorkie running loose in Boston and, after giving him water and a bath, scanned the presumably lost dog for a microchip. Lo and behold, it was Rex.
“Seems like a happy ending, right?” officers added. “Oh no, we haven’t even gotten to the good part yet.”
After explaining her disbelief over the phone, Rex’s shocked owner raced down to the Stoughton Police Department to see if this miracle could possibly be true. Though he’d been missing for over a decade, Rex had finally been rescued and reunited with his owner.
“Marzena quickly came to meet ACO Carlos at the Stoughton Police Department where the two were reunited for the first time in over a decade,” officers wrote. “Marzena reports that Rex had a great night at their home and loved meeting her kids. He was treated to a day of beauty, and all is right in the world.”
A Hollywood ending that is too long to explain in a tweet, but would be the sweetest tweet ever tweeted in the history of tweeting. Read the full story on our FB page: t.co/h0ADid1RCA pic.twitter.com/6Fu0dgwNZa

Of course, this incredible reunion story was only possible because of Rex’s microchip, which allowed officers to reunite the stolen dog with his owner 11 years after he disappeared.
“Let’s all have a good cry now, get it all out,” posted officers, underscoring the critical role of microchipping your pets. “This reunification is one for the ages and wouldn’t have happened without this technology!!
