Most people are excellent caretakers who take pride in helping dogs and cats live their best pet lives.
But some folks should never own animals — case in point being the Cairo, New York woman who repeatedly stabbed her dog, Peaches, then tried beheading the pup with a sword.
Thankfully, the woman’s gruesome attempt wasn’t successful, but Peaches was left with severe injuries. But the woman made to effort to tend to the dog’s wounds. Local papers– quoting the sheriff’s department–reported that Peaches was left to suffer in “extreme pain” for approximately 8 hours.
By the time Peaches was finally brought to Catskill Animal Hospital, the dog was barely clinging to life. The dog underwent several hours of “intense” surgery, according to Columbia-Greene Humane Society/SPCA, which is now caring for Peaches and 5 other dogs rescued from this woman’s property.
Now the shelter expects Peaches to make a full recovery, which is a miracle considering everything this dog has been through.
“Peaches’ recovery is remarkable,” the shelter’s president, Ron Perez, wrote on Facebook. “Her sutures should come out by the end of this week, and her next step will be her new forever home.”

Perez also applauded Peaches’ foster parents for playing a critical role in the dog’s recovery and healing. “We couldn’t be more thankful to our foster home and caregiver,” the shelter president wrote.

Meanwhile, Peaches’ former owner, Pauline Waldron, has been charged with aggravated animal cruelty. According to the Times Union, this felony charge carries a maximum penalty of 2 years in prison.
The newspaper also reported that Peaches’ brutal attack could bolster attempts to create a local animal abuse registry. Such a registry would bar Waldron and other abusers from ever owning another pet, according to the paper.
