When Michelle’s dog, Zoey, went missing from her home in Lafayette, California, 12 years ago, Michelle was absolutely devastated.
She searched everywhere, and although Zoey had a microchip, she was never found. As days turned into months and months turned into years, Michelle began to think that she would never see her beloved Zoey again.
Fast forward 12 years and the San Joaquin County Sheriff’s office received a call regarding a stray dog who was found on a rural property and appeared “old and unwell.”
When Animal Services Officer Brandon Levin scanned for a microchip, he learned that her name was Zoey and that she had been missing for over a decade.
When Michelle received the call that Zoey had been found, she couldn’t believe it. She never thought she would ever see her again.
Zoey had been missing for so long that the microchip company had actually listed her as “deceased” in their records.
Luckily, Zoey was alive, and Michelle was able to hold her again in a heartwarming reunion.
It’s unknown where Zoey had been all those years, or if she spent any of her life with a family, but what matters most is that she is back where she belongs.
She will get to spend the rest of her life with her loving mom, who will make sure she feels loved. The two of them definitely have a lot of time to make up for!
This story just goes to show how important it is to microchip your pets. If Zoey hadn’t been microchipped, she most likely would have never been returned to her owner.
