When Kelsey got a call about a little teacup Yorkie in need of a foster home, she didn’t hesitate to meet the tiny pooch and offer her a safe, temporary home.

The dog, Pipsqueak, was rescued from a puppy mill and weighed in at just 1.8 pounds – smaller than a guinea pig!

She was suffering a lot of health issues and needed a foster home to recover in and spend her last few months of life in. After all, she was only given around 6 months to live.

When Kelsey brought Pipsqueak home, she wasn’t sure if the dog would find a forever family and decided to adopt her. Given that the pup’s lifespan was less than a year, Kelsey and her husband really just wanted to provide Pip with a comfortable place to live out her last few months.

“We had no idea what we were getting ourselves into,” Kelsye shared with GeoBeats Animals.

Once settled into her new home, Pipsqueak became quite vocal and would quack like a duck! Her bark was far from normal and Kelsey and her husband thought, “There is something seriously wrong with this dog.” As time went on, they realized that was just her natural bark – a quack.

6 months eventually passed and the months turned into years. It’s been 8 years now and Pip is still going strong! She’s even inspired Kelsey and her husband to take on more special-needs dogs. Since welcoming Pipsqueak into their home, they’ve adopted an additional 6 small dogs that are seniors, have special needs, or have behavioral issues.

“Every single day [Pip] inspires me,” Kelsey shared with GeoBeats Animals. She is quite an inspiring dog, living her best life and defying the odds.

She faces a lot of medical obstacles each day, but Kelsey still describes her as being “so happy” and full of life. And that’s what it’s all about.
