I think that most of us have at least some type of fear. For some of us, it’s just a routine fear that may keep us from getting the most out of life but for others, it could be a phobia.
For Tala, it was a fear of moths. She had this fear for as long as she could remember but one day, something changed her perception and as she put it, even changed her life.
It happened when there was a giant moth crawling toward her. She was afraid at first, but then when she got past her fear, she came to realize that it was actually quite cute.
That is when she decided to take it home and help it. She felt that it had probably recently come out of a cocoon and had not yet dried its wings fully. She allowed it to crawl around on her arm, speaking about how much it tickled and being amazed at the beauty of its wings.
In an interview with The Dodo, when nighttime came, she put the moth in a plant outside to keep any creatures from finding it. When she got up in the morning, however, she found that she was only partially successful in her quest.
There was a male moth who had stopped by and the two of them were coupled. Eventually, the male flew away and she was able to pick up the female and take her inside. She heard that there was a storm coming and she didn’t want the moth to get hurt.
She eventually took the moth outside and allowed it to fly away. That was the last time she ever saw it, but the moth did leave behind about 200 eggs.
After doing some research, Tala learned that only about one out of every 100 eggs would survive to adulthood. She wanted to make sure that as many of the eggs as possible survived.
Tala felt that the moth had almost left the eggs in her care and wanted to make sure that she took care of each and every one of them. She waited until the eggs hatched and then fed the caterpillars.
One of the things that really surprised her was how much the caterpillars ate. They are eating machines, and she made sure that they had plenty of leaves on hand to get all of the food they needed.
Eventually, the caterpillars began to spin their cocoons, and then it was just a matter of waiting until the cocoons hatched. All in all, about 180 of the eggs turned into beautiful giant moths.
As they matured, she would take them to various parks in the area and set them free. It was an experience that she felt truly changed her life.
