If you’ve ever been to a thrift store, you know you can find some interesting things. Ever since I was a child, thrift stores have been my go-to place to shop. I started shopping there out of necessity because we didn’t have a lot of money growing up, but I’m glad I learned about how awesome they can be at a young age!

Who wants to pay full price when you can get something at a fraction of the cost and cause less harm to the environment at the same time? It’s a win-win situation, and there’s something about the “hunt” of finding items that’s exhilarating.

New York City-based TikToker The Thrifty Mama understands the thrill of thrifting all too well.

Using knowledge from her former career as a vintage dealer who sourced pieces from thrift stores, The Thrifty Mama finds awesome pieces and shares about them on TikTok! Given her background, she’s especially keen on finding vintage pieces, like sequence dresses or fur coats.

During one particular shopping trip, The Thrifty Mama saw something gorgeous that caught her eye. Sitting among the shoes was a beautiful vintage fur hat. It looked like it was from the 1950s and was in pristine condition. She explaiend on TikTok, “Today, I’m at the thrift store minding my business when I see this vintage fur hat. Beautiful. Looked like it was from the ’50s.”

Of course, she wasn’t going to pass up on the find and she immediately went to grab it – only to be shocked when it moved! “I go to touch the hat, and the doggone hat moved. I swear my heart jumped up into my throat,” she recalled.

Apparently, it wasn’t a hat at all. Instead, it was an orange tabby cat who wasn’t too thrilled about being woken from his nap.

“Now, I know we got bodega cats out here in New York City, but this is the first time I’ve seen a thrift store cat. I’ve done seen it all, y’all. And he had the nerve to be irritated because I accidentally woke him up,” she said in the clip.

Personally, I’ve seen loads of cats in thrift stores, but maybe that’s not so common on the East Coast as it is on the West Coast?
