Ever since we were children, we probably heard stories about people coming out to rescue a kitten stuck in a tree. Although we’ve heard about it frequently, we rarely ever see it in action.

Then again, there are times when it actually does happen and Ashley Pennington is all too aware of that fact.

As Ashley explained on TikTok, she was out walking her dog when she heard some commotion in a nearby tree and after walking by the tree again, she decided to stop and take a look.

At first, she thought that a cat might’ve been stuck in the crawlspace but when she went back outside, she found the kitten hanging from a tree.

Pennington decided that she wouldn’t allow the little kitten to stay there frightened. She formed a rescue plan, grabbed a ladder and climbed up to snag a little furry animal from the tree branches. After she got the kitten back to the ground, she thought that she would let him go about his business but the orange tabby thought differently.

Suddenly, the little cat was showing affection for his rescuer. He refused to leave Pennington’s side, and the kitten even got along with the family dog, Otis, immediately.

When they got close to the house, he ran inside the front door quickly because Pennington had left it open. Suddenly, the little ball of fur was everywhere in the house at one time, running around as if it was home sweet home already.

Eventually, the kitten tired out and decided to take a nap on Pennington’s lap. It seems as if the feline had already made the decision to move in and now that Pennington had been around him for a while, it was a done deal.

The only problem was, Pennington’s husband was not going to be on board with the decision. He had been sleeping during the time that all of this was taking place so she went on Facebook and look to find if anyone had lost the tabby.

She said: “My husband finally woke up and I said, ‘so we have a problem.’ I took him to the garage where the kitten was, and [the kitten] just walked right in like he owned the place.”

As it turns out, her thoughts about her husband were exactly the opposite of reality. Within 20 minutes, her husband was outside playing with the kitten and had even named it Kevin.

Some calls were made to the local shelter to make sure that nobody was looking for Kevin and when they didn’t get any response, the Penningtons officially had a new family member. It wasn’t long before Kevin had adapted to his life in a new home. He still loves to cuddle and can often be found with his new best friend, Otis.
