The news from Donegal is rather shocking, especially if you have arachnophobia. It seems as if a woman found something in a bunch of bananas that she purchased at a supermarket.
It was a “red rump” tarantula, which was eventually rescued by the ISPCA. The spider will eventually find a permanent home at Alcorn’s Tropical World.
I don’t know about you, but when I go shopping for bananas at the grocery store, I don’t exactly expect to find a spider inside, let alone a tarantula.
After the ISPCA came and picked up the spider, they confirmed that it was a red rump and are now taking care of it. They even gave it a name, Parker.
“Parker was carefully captured and transferred in a secure box before being admitted to the ISPCA Animal Rescue Centre for a closer inspection,” said a spokesperson for the ISPCA.
“A veterinary examination confirmed that Parker was very dehydrated and lethargic after his travels but after some water and mini-crickets to eat, he began to perk up very quickly. Parker was placed in an appropriate humid habitat in temperature and moisture levels suitable for his species and was closely monitored over a number of weeks,” they continued.
