A woman on TikTok went viral after her attempt at rescuing a chipmunk went hilariously wrong.

It all started when Ashley Caron was in her home in Massachusetts with her kids and her dog and they noticed a wild chipmunk trapped between the window pane.

Of course, Ashley didn’t want to touch the wild chipmunk but she also couldn’t leave it there, so she started devising a rescue plan and she filmed the entire thing!

In the video she shared on TikTok, you can hear Ashley trying to negotiate with the chipmunk.

She wants to open the window and get the chipmunk into the house and through the front door, but the chipmunk has to cooperate and run to the door willingly.

It’s a tricky thing to convey to a wild animal when you only speak English and they speak chipmunk, but Ashley gave it her best go anyway and slowly began to open the window to free the little critter.

However, right as the chipmunk dropped down to the windowsill, Ashley’s dog ran over and grabbed it in his mouth!

Ashley screamed and chased the dog who ran off with the little rodent in tow and the video ends there, rather precariously.

Many people assumed the worst, believing the dog had eaten the chipmunk or, at the least, killed it. Thankfully, Ashley was able to provide an update: The chipmunk lived.

In a follow-up video, she explained that she didn’t intend for her dog to get the chipmunk but she wasn’t an experienced animal rescuer and didn’t think through her plan. She added that the chipmunk was alive and well.

Things could’ve ended poorly for the chipmunk, but the dog didn’t get the best of him. We’re just glad Ashley provided an update so weren’t left to believe the little fellow had been eaten!

All is well that ends well!
