We did it! On Tuesday, August 2, we airlifted 155 at-risk Florida shelter cats to safety on our first Clear the Shelters flight!
NBCUniversal Local, Greater Good Charities, The Animal Rescue Site, and Hill’s Pet Nutrition teamed up for this life-saving flight on Aug. 2, which was timed to coincide with Clear the Shelters, NBC Universal Local’s annual pet adoption and donation campaign running throughout the month of August.
Early on the morning of Aug. 2, we kicked off the national adoption drive in style by flying 155 cats and kittens rescued from overcrowded shelters around South Florida to safety in Massachusetts!
In addition to flying at-risk shelter cats to shelters where they can get adopted, this critical flight helped overcrowded shelters around South Florida clear the shelters and make room to rescue more animals!
After departing from Ft. Lauderdale on Aug. 2, our first Clear the Shelters flight–which was operated by Greater Good Charities Good Flights with support from The Animal Rescue Site, Hill’s Pet Nutrition, and readers like you!–landed in New Bedford, MA, carrying 155 grateful feline fliers.
The shelter cats were unloaded and swiftly transferred to receiving shelters, where they’ll be evaluated and receive attention as needed before being put up for adoption. Visit the Northeast Animal Shelter in Salem, MA, MSPCA-Angell in Boston MA, and Monadnock Humane Society in Swanzey, NH, if you’d like to meet our sweet cat and kitten passengers!
This life-saving flight carried rescued kitties like Whiskey and Gin, who were picked up by animal control in Florida; Clementine, a stray kitten who was rescued with her sisters and thrived in foster care; bonded sisters Coco and Nellie, who were surrendered by their owner in Florida and now hope to get adopted up North together; and Castello, a playful orange tabby who can’t wait to get adopted Massachusetts!
Of course, this special flight also wouldn’t be possible without support from Greater Good readers, whose generous donations helped us fly all 155 shelter pets to safety! Thank you for helping us fly shelter pets–who sadly risk euthanasia when shelters get too crowded–to shelters where they can get adopted into loving homes!
In addition to supporting two Clear the Shelters flights on Aug. 2 and Aug. 30, The Animal Rescue Site will also be donating critical supplies to shelters participating in Clear the Shelters 2022, which also serves as an opportunity to raise money for shelters and rescues.
Once again, The Animal Rescue Site is hosting fundraising for this year’s shelter donation drive and covering 100 percent of transaction fees to ensure every cent goes to shelters and rescues in need. Support your favorite shelters here!
Thanks again for helping us fly 155 shelter cats to safety on our Aug. 2 Clear the Shelters flight, which wouldn’t have been possible without the generous support of our GreaterGood family. Your unwavering commitment to animal rescue and adoption just helped us save 150+ animals’ lives!
Please make a donation if you’d like to support our next Clear the Shelters flight, which will fly 50 at-risk Louisiana dogs to safety in New Jersey on Aug. 30. Just $5 helps us fund 125 air miles for one shelter pet flier, and donations will be matched by Hill’s Pet Nutrition up to $30,000.
