Firefighters are true heroes, not just to people but to our pets too.

That was recently seen in a big way when firefighters with the Oklahoma City Fire Department responded to a call about a dog trapped in a partially-frozen lake.

The fire department shared about the rescue on Facebook, giving an account of the rescue provided by Chief Kiel who was at the scene.

Chief Kiel said: “Stations 30 & 34 responded on a possible water rescue. Upon arrival found a male standing on the ice with a rope attached to a dog that had fallen through the ice.”

He explained that rescuers used a paddle boat to “make access to the dog,” and pulled the pooch, who appeared to be a golden retriever, onto the boat.

Once back at shore, rescuers were able to reunite the dog, who had “no apparent injuries,” with its owners and that’s the best possible outcome we could ask for.

It’s unclear how the dog ended up in the lake, but we’re just glad the firefighters were able to respond in time.

As the fire department put it, we’re glad this one turned out well!
