No matter where you start from, it’s possible to achieve truly amazing things, and help others do the same. No one knows this better than Truffles the cat! Born a stray in 2016, Truffles found her mission in the unlikeliest of places.
Adopted by Dr. Danielle D. Crull, Truffles proved to be smart as a whip from a very young age. According to her site, Truffles “learned how to sit and give high fives by the time she was 4 months old.”
She’s now the office cat for Crull, an optician who specializes in glasses and corrective gear for young people at her practice, A Child’s Eyes, in Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania. Thanks to her smarts, she’s more than just a pretty face — “Truffles really became, very quickly, quite an asset to the company,” Crull explained to Fox10 in 2019. Her special talent? Modeling glasses!
It started out as a trick that Dr. Crull decided to teach Truffles, using a modified pair of pink eyeglasses for premature babies. “I kind of went through the process of fitting her, kind of like I would fit a child,” Crull described with amusement. Truffles enjoyed the process and the attention, both from Crull and customers!
“Danielle was so surprised to find that this little act of wearing glasses put the children at ease and helped facilitate the fitting process,” Truffle’s official site explains. “As an added bonus, Truffles seemed to build children’s self esteem about their own eyeglass wearing!”

Truffles most impressive talent is the natural way she puts children at ease. For many young kids, eyewear can be intimidating and foreign — trusting a doctor to put things on their face is difficult — but Truffles makes it a little easier with her natural confidence.
And it’s not just glasses. Crull’s practice also sees many pediatric patients with conditions like amblyopia, a developmental disorder that can be eased by wearing an eyepatch. Many kids with the condition, like those who need glasses, are ambivalent about eyepatches. With patient training, Truffles expanded her oeuvre to include eyepatch-wearing as well, and now works to help kids of all kinds, no matter their needs!
