The world’s tallest dog, Freddy the Great Dane, passed away at the age of 8 in his home surrounded by his family.
His mom, Claire Stoneman, announced the sad news on social media saying, “I’m so so so so unbelievably sad to say that Freddy has passed today. He was my world. My heart Dane. The bestest biggest boy ever and loved his followers so much. There’s a hole that can’t be filled. Fly high my amazing big brave boy.”
Freddy held the Guinness World Record for the tallest dog in the world and oldest Great Dane. He was the runt of his litter and his mom never expected him to grow as big as he did.
The gentle giant stood an astounding 7 feet 5 inches on his hind legs and weighed 200 pounds. He earned the title of tallest dog in 2016 and the world instantly fell in love with him.
His family said he was not only large in size but had the “biggest heart” and loved everyone he met.
Thousands of people sent their condolences and Stoneman has read every single one while “fighting the tears that won’t stop falling.” She’s touched by the outpouring of love and said Freddy left her one last gift.
“I was lucky enough to have the night with him after his passing and chatted all night to him 💔 I took a paw print from him…… something he would never let me do when he was with me, hated me touching his paws.
“This morning my friend Heidi Manley noticed in the print……..A Dane Head. Freddys final goodbye….. as my mum said it’s him having the last word. He always did.
“It’s nothing short of a miracle. 🌈🌈🌈”
RIP, Freddy.
