A 12-year-old German shepherd named Ruby has spent her entire life chained outside.
She was bred repeatedly but never properly cared for. The only company she had was her puppies, but that was short-lived.
After her owner passed away, she was finally freed from her lonely life and brought to Ramapo-Bergen Animal Refuge (RBARI) for a second chance.

A full examination was performed which revealed the senior dog has metastasized cancer and her prognosis is poor.
“Ruby is facing terminal cancer after having lived a long and lonely life outside. Ruby is now a senior girl, carrying around a huge mammary mass due the effects of breeding and lack of medical care. Her mammary cancer had been left untreated for so long that it spread throughout her chest,” wrote the rescue.
As if that wasn’t enough, the sweet girl is also suffering from Lyme disease and ear and skin infections. Despite the 12 years of neglect, she still loves people.

“Ruby’s tumors are stable for now, so our urgent priority is to make her comfortable and spoil her until she becomes symptomatic,” said RBARI.
Her ideal home would be a quiet one where she is the only pet. She promises to love you unconditionally with what time she has left.
All she asks is the same in return.
Anyone interested in fostering Ruby can email adoptlove@rbari.org or visit rbari.org to apply.
“Ruby’s happily ever after may look different than we hoped, but despite everything she has been through, she is a sweet, happy girl that only knows how to live,” states the rescue.

Please share her story.
If you are unable to foster or adopt, consider donating towards Ruby’s medical care. “Please consider a donation towards her medical care so that we can help keep this deserving girl as comfortable and joyful as possible this very special holiday season,” concluded the rescue’s post.
