It can be difficult when you’re a stray dog living on the street. That is especially true when you have a facial deformity and you are counting on people at a construction site to care for you day after day.

Alan is a dog that knows this all too well. According to SWNS, he is a boxer-Saluki mix who was born with a condition known as “wry mouth.” Because of the condition, his upper jaw is permanently shifted to one side.

There are a number of reasons why a dog may end up with his condition, such as retaining its baby teeth or if some of its adult teeth grow inward. It may also be due to a narrow mandible bone, but regardless of why it happens, it makes for a rather unique look.

Alan grew up on the streets of Doha, Qatar. A kind security guard at a construction site was feeding Alan along with the other dogs that were born with him but eventually, he wasn’t able to continue doing so.

That is when Johanna Handley learned about this dog and although she is from Britain, she just happened to be in Doha. She went over to see Alan and after seeing him and his littermates, she decided to rescue each and every one of them.

Handley was no stranger to raising dogs. She already had five rescue dogs and she decided that she would make Alan a permanent part of her home. She knew that she would have a hard time finding someone to adopt him with his physical deformity.

One of Alan’s siblings was adopted by her sister and the National Greyhound Adoption Program rescued the rest of the dogs.

In speaking with the Mirror UK, Johanna said: “He’s a completely lovely dog, really sweet, very calm and chill. He loves to run on the beach and he’s a total thief. He’d steal food out of your mouth.”

She loves the dog so much that she wrote a book about him and Alan is even the hero! Let’s hope that she finds a publisher soon.
