Brown bears avoid the cold Alaska winters by hibernating in dens. While most bears are currently preparing for hibernation by eating nonstop, two sibling brown bears thought it was a good idea to practice napping together.

The resident 17-year-old brother and sister bears, JB and Patron, arrived at the Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center in 2004 as cubs after their mother was killed. They have thrived at the wildlife sanctuary and enjoy roughhousing, digging holes, and fishing in the stream that runs through their enclosure.

A recent video of the amicable siblings taken by the manager of the wildlife center has gone viral.

The video starts by showing the two bears in a meadow with scenic mountains in the background. The bears meander around the area before coming together and as if on cue, fall on their sides to nap. The video was perfectly captioned, “Synchronized napping!” and shared on Facebook.

JB and Patron (also known as “Patty”) share their large enclosure with a grizzly bear named Hugo, and they all get along great.

Patty was recently seen preparing a den, which the wildlife sanctuary says is usually shared by all three bears. “Every year our bears choose a suitable spot for their den inside their vast AWCC habitat. Most of the time, all three brown bears – Patty, JB and Hugo – share their winter bed together.”

Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center shares that JB and Patty are both coastal bears (the larger cousin to grizzly bears), but are commonly called brown bears. It is easy to spot which one is Hugo because she is the smallest and has a “very teddy bear-esque look to her.”
