Nyla came to South Bend Animal Resource Center as an owner surrender. She had been found and they tried keeping her, but she did not fit in to their home. So, they brought her to the shelter. She is a beautiful girl, with a lot of energy, but she sat in the shelter for two months waiting to be noticed.

Andy, a volunteer who walks our dogs, was taking dogs home for the weekend to give them some time outside the kennels. When he met Nyla and learned how active and kind hearted she was, he just had to add her to his family. He asked his landlord if he could have a dog, and he applied the moment he heard “yes.”

Nyla was excited to have a “Weekend with Andy,” but she was even more excited that her weekends would be forever! Her new name is Isla, and Andy updated us on how she is doing:

“Isla (formerly Nyla Bear) is doing great. She has settled right in. She has made a couple trips up to Michigan to meet the family and has been showered with treats and love from my parents. We discovered that she is not a swimming dog (her butt sinks) so we’ll need to get her a life jacket.

She’s made some friends at the dog park and has established her place as queen of the squeaky toys. We’ve also been working on her separation anxiety and knowing that the world isn’t ending when I have to leave her at the apartment. All in all, she’s amazing and I couldn’t have asked for a better pup!”
