A dog shelter in British Columbia, Canada is drawing attention to their longest canine resident by throwing her a “pitty party” to mark her one-year anniversary at the shelter.

The Surrey Animal Resource Centre rescued Emma on August 1, 2021, and she’s since been the longest dog to stay at the shelter in 7 years!

The staff wanted to help draw attention to her and help her find a loving forever home, so they threw her a special party to celebrate her year at the shelter.

“Emma is having a PITTY PARTY today!! She has been at the shelter for a year, waiting for that special someone to take her home. So today staff are celebrating her to let her know just how special she is,” the shelter wrote on Facebook.

They went on to say that they’d be posting photos and videos of the shelter animals celebrating throughout the day. They wrote, “Emma wants to share her special day with all the shelter animals waiting for homes and asks everyone to consider adopting or donating today in her honor.”

5-year-old Emma was celebrated with canine-friendly cake, party hats and a kiddie pool filled with stuffed toys! What a dream.

She was sure to share some party favors with the other shelter dogs as well. Check out the video below to see some rescue pups enjoying treats from Emma’s party:

In a follow-up post, the shelter explained that Emma’s stay at the shelter is the first time in 7 years that a dog has been with them for over a year.

They wrote: “Today Emma partied with her friends at the shelter – this is the first time in 7 years that a dog has been at the shelter for over a year. Although Emma enjoys her time with the staff, she would prefer to be in her forever home with a pile of stuffed animals to call her own.”

In a previous post, staff at the shelter described Emma as being “loyal to the core!” She needs a home with no kids and no other dogs. She doesn’t do well in social situations, but she loves snuggling at home and going on walks.

Thanks to the attention the staff drew to Emma’s situation at the shelter, more people were interested in her and took notice of her. An application is currently pending for adoption – hopefully it goes through and she can find her happily ever after home!
