Palm Valley Animal Society (PVAS) located on the border of Texas and Mexico is one of the largest animal shelters in the country, but also one of the most underfunded.

Each year, they take in over 23,000 dogs and cats and do their best to find them loving homes. Due to a lack of funds, they are unable to provide enrichment toys and basic items like collars for each pet – but that’s where you come in.

Your donations and daily clicks have helped provide meals and treats, enrichment toys for dogs and cats, and basic essentials like dog collars to shelters in need.

“This support from Greater Good boosted our entire shelter’s enrichment and basic supplies, and we are incredibly grateful. By investing in PVAS, Greater Good has effected an incredible change for hundreds of animals, instantly,” said PVAS.

Shelter pets are enjoying daily playtime with staff, which has allowed their true personalities to shine. In addition, the shelter can offer foster families the essentials they need and hopefully encourage more people to foster.

Two of the animals directly impacted by your generous donations are a rescue dog named Neji and a rescue cat named Dean.

Neji, a pit bull mix, is an energetic pup who is thoroughly enjoying all the toys and even splashes around in the water with them. Angelique, a caretaker at the shelter, described Neji as, “a very sweet
calm boy! He loves playing tug of war with you and loves the chase!” The staff has fallen in love with him and think that anyone who sees his playful, goofy side will too.

Dean arrived as a one-pound kitten who was immediately taken in by a foster and nursed back to health. When he returned to the shelter to be put up for adoption he was a bit reserved – until he was given a felt toy. Staff said Dean has benefited the most from the toys. “He goes crazy and his playfulness lightens up the room.”

Aside from relieving stress, the donated enrichment toys will help shelter pets find forever homes. “Seeing a dog playing with a chew toy instead of jumping in his kennel is a great way to help visitors see the happy, fun side of animals. We anticipate that over time this will increase adoptions. We’re already seeing that visitors are more likely to hang out with a dog or cat on their visit because of this.”

None of this would have been possible without your support, so thank you. Neji and Dean send their love and kisses for all you do.
