At the end of July, we received a card and letter from a young lady in Pennsylvania. Her name is Avery, and she is amazing. Avery took her love of animals and started a fundraising page. She then took those donations and purchased gift cards, which she has been sending to random animal rescues and shelters around the country. We were one of those lucky shelters!
We were so moved by this special girl’s dedication to the animals and big heart that we decided to name one of our special shelter intakes after her. This beautiful tabby, now named Avery, is FIV positive, which is often considered unadoptable in a shelter environment. We know that with such a special name and story behind her now, Avery will be quickly adopted into a new forever home.

We were so excited about what Avery is doing for rescues nationwide that we shared her story with local news outlets, and it was quickly picked up. We included her own Facebook page Avery’s Pawsitive Change and the link to her fundraiser page in the story in hopes she will get even more donations for other shelters around the country.
We also wanted a tangible thank you for Avery the girl, so we sent out a package of KCZD swag to show our appreciation of her generosity. We had everything ready to go when we saw her Facebook status update.
This special girl was just diagnosed with cancer, Ewing sarcoma to be specific, and is in a hospital in Pittsburgh. She is still upbeat and hopes to resume her donations after treatments. We wanted to send some long distance hugs, so we included one of our handmade crocheted cats in her package. We hope for the best for sweet Avery, and we hope her new crocheted Avery can bring her comfort while she fights.
So Avery, thank you from everyone at Karma Cat + Zen Dog Rescue for your generosity and kind spirit. You sent us some smiles. We are sending purrs and positive vibes from here in NJ.
