A tragic story with a happy ending.
A woman spotted an abandoned car on the side of the road and stopped to help. She didn’t see anyone in or around the car, but when she peered in the window she saw a dog and personal belongings. It was a hot day and she immediately called Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office for assistance.
Officers arrived and rescued the dog who had been in the abandoned car for several days. It turns out the dog’s owner passed away and the dog named Banks was left behind in the car. Banks’ next of kin were contacted and they asked the officers to please find the 15-year-old dog a loving home in Humboldt.
“This is where the story becomes the best outcome ever! Our shelter assistant Jeanette remembered an approved applicant who was looking for a nice senior dog,” the office posted.
Meredith Maier, co-owner of Six Rivers Brewery, met Banks and it was love at first sight.
She told local news station Redwood News, “So, I was kind of familiar with the back story, I went and met him, and he’s adorable, was easy peasy decision to swoop him up.”
Mr. Banks, as he was renamed by Maier, now shares a home with other senior dogs and couldn’t be happier. “Meet Mr. Banks! Our newest member to our senior pack,” Maier shared on her personal page.
“We are happy to welcome Mr. Banks to the 6R family. He can often be found napping in the office under someone’s desk and occasionally cruising the outdoor tables looking for pats and scratches,” wrote Maier on Six Rivers Brewery Facebook page.
Jeanette is thrilled the “good boy” has found a loving forever home. She said, “We are so very proud and touched to do the work that we do here at the shelter providing a safe landing spot for so many pets in need and either getting them back to their owners or on to their new lives.”
Senior pets are the best and will help you appreciate the little things in life, like afternoon naps in the sun. Adopt don’t shop!
