Life for a stray dog in a city is hard. They usually have to fend for themselves and do whatever they can to find food, water, and shelter. Beyond that, they have to avoid humans, cars, and other animals that might hurt them.

For stray mama dogs, life is even more challenging. Not only do they have to protect themselves, but they have to look after their puppies as well.

That was the situation a stray dog living in St. Louis, Missouri found herself in. She’d had a litter of 8 puppies and was trying to hide from the world – while also looking after herself and her new pups.

Thankfully, a Good Samaritan called the Stray Rescue of St. Louis to report the mama dog living on the streets. Rescuers immediately got to work to save her, but it turns out that she didn’t want to be rescued!

Understandably, the mama dog was quite timid and afraid to let anyone near her puppies.

With a little patience and some bacon from Candy Crown Kitchen, workers with the Stray Rescue of St. Louis were able to lure the mama to safety and collect all 8 of her puppies. As soon as she got a taste of the meat that the rescuers offered her, her whole demeanor changed and she seemed to realize that they were there to help!

They wrote on YouTube, “WOW. Wait until you see the transformation this scared and protective mama makes during her rescue! All thanks to our secret weapon, bacon from Crown Candy Kitchen! She did such a good job. She has 8 little angel babies.”

They ended up naming the mama dog Crown Candy and her 8 puppies were named after the menu as well.
