When we think of penguins, we probably picture the adorable little dancing penguins of Happy Feet. However, the tough and sarcastic little penguins of Penguins of Madagascar are probably a more accurate depiction of these black and white feathered animals.
After all, penguins live in a frozen world where they have to be tough in order to survive the harsh environment.
And as the BBC series, Penguins Spy in the Huddle shows, these penguins are quite intrepid – all from the moment of birth.
The series, which is narrated by David Tennant, focuses on a spy penguin which was created by John Downer Productions in order to be able to witness first hand the birth of a little emperor penguin.

Emperor penguins are a species that are hatched entirely by their fathers. While the mothers go off to hunt, the dads will stay at home for two months, battling blizzards in their huddle circles, in order to care for the eggs. It is quite the wait for the magical moment of hatching.
As the series showed, the hatching of the one egg has a domino effect as others soon begin to hatch as well. After the newborn birds are born, the fathers will continue to care for their chicks until the mothers return from the hunt and they are able to switch duties.
