One elephant in India was definitely having a very bad day when the regal animal ended up getting itself stuck in a well. Luckily for the elephant, there were people around who were willing to help.
Unfortunately, this help did take a lot of time. The entire rescue, which relied on a mass effort of teamwork, took an entire 14 hours!
The astonishing rescue was all caught on camera. Of course, the biggest problem facing the rescue mission was the animal’s large size. How exactly were they going to secure it with ropes and pull it out?
The rescue started in the morning, but it ended up extending well into the evening. The elephant had to be sedated before it could be pulled out. Afterward, it was secured with ropes that acted as a harness for the large animal. Then, the elephant was lifted out using a crane.
The daring rescue attracted quite the gathering, as people wanted to watch what was going on. As soon as the elephant was strapped in and ready to go, the process to lift it out began. Luckily for the elephant, it emerged from the well unscathed. People cheered when the rescue was finally complete, proving to be a successful mission.
While this was quite the riveting scene to witness, it’s apparently not that uncommon. Elephants getting stuck in wells is a fairly regular occurrence, as there were two other cases of elephants ending up inside wells in recent times.
Who would’ve thought these gentle giants were so attracted to wells? Watch the video of the rescue in the footage below:
