An orphaned 10-day-old kitten was nearly frozen to death when she was found lying on the concrete floor of Indiana barn. Fortunately, she was discovered by a kindly farmer, who covered the tiny kitten in straw and waited for the mother cat to arrive. But when nobody showed, the Indiana woman wrapped the kitten in a blanket and brought her to a local rescue.
“When we got the kitten she was starving, a little dehydrated and covered in fleas,” Missy McNeal, a worker from Catsnip Etc, told Love Meow. Rescuers combed the tiny kitten for fleas, gave her a bottle, and tucked her into a warm, cozy bed with a snuggly teddy bear.
The combination of nutritious milk, round-the-clock care, and R&R seemed to be exactly what the doctor ordered. Within days, the bottle-fed kitten was putting on weight, boasted a healthy appetite, and craved constant attention from her caretakers. Rescuers decided to name the sweet and playful kitten Cricket.
But even while Cricket loved being around people, the kitten maintained an adorably strong bond with her teddy bear, which she carried around at all times. The teddy bear proved useful in scary situations, like going to the vet, but Cricket also likes to cuddle her teddy bear to sleep every night and whenever she’s feeling lonely, which usually happens when her foster mom isn’t home.
“She absolutely loves her teddy bear,” said Missy. “She has had it with her since the day she was rescued, and it goes everywhere with her. Her teddy bear is her cuddle buddy to sleep and makes her feel more secure.”
Cricket is quickly growing into a playful, healthy, and confident kitten, according to her foster mom, who is sure this sweet and cuddly girl will make a perfect house pet. “She is definitely getting more outgoing and she loves to run around and play,” said Missy. “She has figured out how much fun toys can be.”
But there’s one particular toy that will surely be accompanying Cricket to her new home, wherever that may be. This rescued kitten and her teddy bear are a package deal!
