Vicky Schroeder has met a lot of donkeys over the years as executive director of Longhopes Donkey Shelter. She likes the animals so much that her Instagram handle says it all: @fortheloveofass_. She recently shared a video of one of her biggest loves.

Schroeder said she was asked which donkey she likes the most. She clarified that she doesn’t have a favorite and loves special things about each animal, but she decided to share some footage of a big furry sweetie named Gideon. Though this 30-something donkey is far along in years, he often doesn’t act like it.

Schroeder explains, “He comes up to you showing he is interested in attention, and the moment you give it to him, he acts out because you didn’t pet him fast enough and runs away! He then comes back with his tail between his legs and asks for more pets. I just love him!”

This desire for pets is pretty common for the old man. In the video she shared, you can see him grinning up a storm while he gets a long pat down on his head and ears. He also snuggles Schroeder’s shoulder or just rests his head there, lapping up all the attention.

She shared that he had done something similar the night before when he was getting pets, but he showed his intelligent side in the process.

Schroeder explained, “He then extended his hoof indicating he wanted me to grab it. I could tell he wanted something. So I picked his hoof up and examined it. I noticed a very small rock stuck in there so I removed it, cleaned his hoof and set it down.”

Once that was sorted, it was back to more pets.
