Sometimes, babies are abandoned by their mothers for unknown reasons. It was the reality of a little black rhino in South Africa.
The baby rhino was found abandoned by rescuers, but no one was sure why the mother rejected the baby. It was clear that the little animal wouldn’t survive without help so rescuers got to work to save the rhino and give it a second chance at life.
Care For Wild Rhino Sanctuary worked with a rescue team to secure the abandoned rhino and bring her to safety.
They shared on Instagram, “Despite the hazardous weather conditions and all odds against them, the Timbavati team have successfully rescued and retrieved the calf.”
The rescue named the little calf Swazi and began nursing her back to health. They wanted Swazi to have some companionship, but she was too small to be put with other rhinos. So, they decided to introduce the little rhino to a lonely rescue goat named Bokkie and the two instantly hit things off.
Bokkie stepped in to comfort Swazi and the two became fast BFFs. Bokkie and Swazi loved to chase each other and run around together. They were so sweet!
Eventually, Swazi began to grow and the rescue had to get her ready for the wild. Their goal was to get her self-sufficient and independent while ensuring her safety and health.
It wasn’t long before Swazi had to say goodbye to Bokkie, as she was released into a protected wild environment.
Once out in the wild, she met a bull and formed a deep bond with him. It seems the two have a great life ahead!
Thanks to Care For Wild Rhino Sanctuary, Swazi was given a second chance at life and she’s living it to the fullest!
