As a society, we tend to look the other way when it comes to stray animal populations. They are basically invisible to us even when in all actuality they are in plain sight.
That’s because for most they are a low priority with everything going on in our busy lives and the seemingly never-ending chaos around us. We tend not to give it much thought even though we know it’s happening.
Homeless Animals
Fortunately, not everyone can look away. For them, knowing the true plight of creatures that are among the most vulnerable members of society eats them up inside. A small rescue group in Ukraine is among them. They are Love Furry Friends, and they have been doing everything within their time and financial capabilities to help street animals since the war with Russia began.
As word has gotten out about the work they do, each day they are notified about animals in need. After receiving the details, they go to investigate, more often than not removing an animal or animals from the streets and whisking them away to receive medical intervention as well as food and safe housing, all in the hope that someday they will be adopted into stable loving homes.
War in Ukraine
While there are plenty of Ukrainians with huge loving hearts, stability is sorely missing in the country right now. It’s a large part of the reason their homeless animal population has grown. The animals there, both domestic and wildlife, are some of the biggest losers since the assault began.
But Love Furry Friends knows there’s no time to dwell on the whys. It’s action that’s needed. So, in addition to rescuing animals off the streets, they’ve taken to feeding large numbers of strays daily. Frightened and tentative, the animals wait hopefully on the fringes as rescuers fill tubs of life-saving food for them to eat.
Stray Dog Populations
By the most recent estimates, they are providing nutrition for approximately 100 dogs each and every day with no end in sight. No one is sure how much longer this can go on, but that’s a worry for another day. For now, all that matters is that they are doing what they can to alleviate the unnecessary suffering these strays endure.
In this bleak landscape of despair, it isn’t just food they supply but fleeting moments of kindness and affection, for they recognize that many, if not most, of these animals, used to have human companionship in addition to a warm bed and full bowls of kibble and clean water.
