Costco customers in Anchorage, Alaska are complaining that ravens are stealing their groceries from the parking lot.

Kimberley Y. Waller shared on Facebook that her parents were victims of the ravens at the Costco on Diamond Blvd in Anchorage. She wrote, “Anyone else had an experience with the crows at Dimond Costco? My parents were minding their business after a shop and made it home with one less steak! The bird snatched it right out of the pack in the parking lot.”

Apparently, she’s not the only one who’s experienced this. Tamara Josey commented on Waller’s post, saying, “my friend says they did this to her mom and she went back inside and insisted they replace her meat since they know the birds are a problem and aren’t doing anything.”

Another friend of Waller’s shared that her husband’s cart was “attacked” in the parking lot and he lost some of the short ribs he’d purchased.

Local news station Anchorage Daily News further reported that several customers have claimed to be targeted by the ravens at that Costco.

They shared that one customer, Matt Lewallen, was loading his groceries into his car when one single short rib was snagged from his cart. He fully believes that the ravens are trained and ready to pounce. He said, “They know what they’re doing; it’s not their first time. They’re very fat so I think they’ve got a whole system there.”

Tamara Josey was also a victim of the ravens, explaining to the news outlet that she had two ravens working together to get her groceries. She said there was “one that was on the car next to me and he kept squawking really loud. He would sit on the car and stare at me, then hop next to the bed of the truck on the other side, and he kept going back and forth.”

While that raven acted as a distraction, the second raven was sneakily working to nab her groceries. She said, “The other raven was on the ground. He kept trying to pull — I had those little mini-melons you have in the mesh baggies — he kept trying to grab the netting and pull my melons off the cart.”

Anna Marie Lewallen further shared in her comment on Waller’s post that when her husband returned the meat packet that the ravens had stolen from him, “they said many people return meat due to raven attacks. They also mentioned it is a problem at their corporate distribution warehouse.”
