It is no secret that Queen Elizabeth II loved corgis and saw them as family. Throughout her life she owned over 30 and one or two were always by her side – right until the very end. It appears that her love of the short-legged breed has been passed down.
On September 8th, Her Majesty passed away peacefully at the age of 96 and left behind four beloved dogs – two corgis (Muick and Sandy), a dorgi (a Corgi-Dachshund mix named Candy) and a cocker spaniel named “Lissy” after the Queen.
The Duke of York – Prince Andrew- and his ex-wife Duchess of York- Sarah Ferguson- have stepped up to adopt Muick, Sandy, and most likely Candy and bring them home to the Royal Lodge in Windsor.
Although the couple is divorced, they still share a home, and both adore corgis.
Muick and Sandy were gifted by Prince Andrew to the Queen last year after the passing of Prince Phillip. They were always given the royal treatment, which even included Her Majesty preparing their meals from time to time.
Daily Mail shares that Prince Andrew and his eldest daughter Princess Beatrice have been walking the dogs for the past few months.
Duchess Sarah recently reconnected with the Queen and shared her heartbreak over her death on Twitter. She posted, “I will miss her more than words can express.”
The two became close over their love of dogs and horses. The Duchess fondly remembers chats with the Queen as they strolled in the gardens with the dogs.
I am heartbroken by the passing of Her Majesty the Queen. She leaves behind an extraordinary legacy: the most fantastic example of duty and service and steadfastness, and a constant steadying presence as our head of state for more than 70 years. pic.twitter.com/3X6Lpy98lr

She went on to say, “To me, she was the most incredible mother-in-law and friend. I will always be grateful to her for the generosity she showed me in remaining close to me even after my divorce.”
As for Lissy, she is currently living with her trainer, and it has yet to be decided who will adopt her.
