All dogs should be showered with love and cherished, but sadly this was not the case for a puppy in San Antonio, Texas.
Instead of playing with toys and exploring the world, Tammi, a 8-month-old retriever, was subjected to extreme violence and abuse.
She arrived at San Antonio Humane Society (SAHS) in pain and in desperate need of help.
Her sad eyes gave a glimpse into the pain she endured at the hands of cruel individuals, but she didn’t allow it to break her sweet spirit. She was obviously cautious of people but allowed medical staff to examine and treat her.
The sweet puppy was examined by SAHS veterinarians and X-rays confirmed she was hit by a car and shot with a shotgun. She had a fractured pelvis and over 70 shotgun pellets in her body.
Tammi received surgery to repair her pelvis and ‘restore her mobility’. She was taken in by a loving foster, Michelle Linsley, who assisted in her recovery and showed her not all humans are bad. She said as soon as her daughter and her saw the sweet pup they knew they had to foster her.
Their love and devotion helped Tammi recover physically and emotionally.

“After a month of rest and much-needed love and care, Tammi is now stronger and ready to find her forever home. She will still need some rehab to strengthen her leg muscles, which include short leash walks and stretches,” posted the shelter.
SAHS Associate Veterinarian Dr. Traci Gilbert said, “Tammi needs a fun-loving and caring home. Considering everything she went through, she is such a sweet girl. She is young and a bit shy, but I am sure she would love an active family once she gets her strength back.”
The shelter posted about Tammi and hoped to find her a forever home before the holidays, and they did.
Less than 24 hours after posting about Tammi, she was adopted by a loving family. Her foster mom was elated and wrote, “So thankful that she got a home. Poor baby was only 8 months old when all this happened to her.”
