It’s always sad when we hear about a dog that was abandoned or mistreated. We may hear about these things occasionally, but for rescuers at the Stray Rescue of St. Louis, these stories are a regular occurrence.

Back in October, the rescue received a phone call from someone who was concerned about a puppy hiding in a junk pile.

Neighbors in the area would pile up their junk and anything they didn’t want, and the puppy was using it as a home base. Unfortunately, somebody discarded this little puppy as unwanted.

It wasn’t long before the rescuers showed up and they noticed that the dog, that they named Chowder, had some old injuries on her face. These included puncture wounds and damage to her eyes.

Even though she was going through a difficult time, the rescue reported on Facebook that she is happy and now, she is safe!

We all recognize that dogs want love, so when somebody approached Chowder from the rescue, she began wagging her tail. Unfortunately, the neighborhood is known for dogfighting, and Chowder was likely used as a bait dog.

It wasn’t long after Chowder was rescued that she was already showing some love and comfort on the ride home. They wrote: “He just buried his face in our arms on his freedom ride. The thought of anyone treating him bad makes us so weepy. This angel needs us. We’re so grateful to the callers for taking action.”

Although Chowder had some difficult struggles, she is now living a much better life. She was being cared for when this happened last October and hopefully, she has already found his forever home.
