The Russo-Ukrainian War has been going on since 2014, but it wasn’t until February 24th, 2022, that things really ramped up with a full-scale invasion of Ukraine by the Russian military. Just over a week later, GreaterGood and Greater Good Charities launched into action, sending aid in the form of tourniquets and medical kits, food boxes and hot pizza, blankets and warm clothing, and pet food and pet supplies.

On this second anniversary of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, we’d like to tell you more about the people and pets you’re helping and the ones who still need our help. Corbin and Belle are two such pets, displaced puppies who have received care through your donation efforts but who still need loving homes.

Corvin was picked up near the frontlines in Kurakhovo by a Ukrainian military member. It’s not unusual for troops to find abandoned pets on the battlefield, and they often pick them up and care for them or rehome them.

But the frontlines were no place for baby Corvin, who was unnecessarily stressed by the explosions and gunfire. After caring for Corvin by himself for a while, the military member turned him over to Animal Rescue Kharkiv to receive proper care and a chance at a home with a new family.

Belle’s story is similar. This puppy was evacuated from Oleksandrivka, a town in the Donetsk region that was decimated by Russian attacks in late 2022. She was found abandoned in the deserted city along with some other puppies whose mother had died. A few locals who stayed in the city after it was destroyed occasionally fed the pups, but they had little means to keep them safe and fed full-time.

When Animal Rescue Kharkiv showed up in Oleksandrivka, the locals asked them to save Belle and her buddies, so they took them into care, brought them to Kharkiv, and are looking for new, loving homes for them.

Your donations to GreaterGood and our partners at Greater Good Charities help fund supplies needed to keep displaced pets like Corvin and Belle safe, warm, and fed while they wait for their forever homes. We set up feed stations in areas with high numbers of free-roaming animals and provide food, warm blankets, shelters, medical supplies, and other basic necessities for those who are already in the care of our partners on the ground in Ukraine.

It’s now been two years since we began assisting people and pets in need in Ukraine, and we have our donors and readers to thank for their support in this important endeavor! With your help, we will continue giving where it’s needed most for as long as it’s needed. Learn more below!
