Louie was a throw-away kitten. He and his two sisters were thrown out of a moving car into a blackberry patch. Fortunately, this act was seen by a hospital employee taking a break outside. He called a vet who also worked with the animal shelter and she came right away.
She managed to rescue Louie that evening, and then rescued the two sisters the next day. They were about 6 weeks old at the time. Louie is a brown tabby and his sisters were black. Louie also has extra toes – six on one of his front paws and seven on the other front paw.
The office where I had worked for six years had just lost its office cat, Lady. She was 18-19 years old and I was her primary caregiver. She was a brown striped calico and very loving. The vet knew us because she had taken care of Lady the last year or so of her life. She told me about Louie and his siblings and I told her I loved tabbies. At that time, I “only” had three cats, a long-haired black and two blues. So I “needed” a tabby.
The first picture is of him on his first day with me and the second is of him now. He quickly became my husband’s kitty, cuddling with him in bed after he’d done his early morning school bus run but after I’d left for work. My husband died a year later but Louie continues to sleep with me.
My kitties I had when I got him have passed on, but I added two rescue kittens to the family five years ago, Peter and Scarlett. Peter often joins Louie in cuddling with me. Louie is aging gracefully, with bright eyes and lots of love. It will be very sad when he leaves me, but I will always remember how he comforted me following the death of my husband and his “person.”
