For those of us who have a love of dogs and perhaps even have a dog in our home, there are stories that sometimes break our hearts. Perhaps that is where this story was going, but it ended on a very positive note.
It happened in Greenport when a police officer saw a little dog tied to a mile marker. That dog, who is now known as Fern, had been abandoned but she is now living in a forever home with her rescuer.

James Crosser was the Southold Town Police Officer who found the pup. He came to the shelter and claimed her to bring her home.

He and his wife were smiling from ear-to-ear and there wasn’t a dry eye in the house.
Fern is a senior Chihuahua that was found on Chapel Lane tied to a mile marker. It is thought that she had spent the night unprotected before she was found by the police officer and, eventually, provided with a forever home.
According to Patch.com, Stroup said: “It seems like the dog was left there” adding that it is unknown how long the dog had been tied in that area. Fern was also injured but they have no idea how it happened.
For now, it’s a happy ending because a dog that was abandoned is now in a much better and forever home.
