When we welcome a pet into our lives, we’re making a commitment to care for them and treat like members of the family for the rest of their lives. It’s a big deal, but it’s something that many people don’t take seriously enough.
Sadly, many people abandon their pets when times get tough. Maybe they’re moving to a new home that’s not pet friendly, or perhaps they simply don’t want the responsibility any longer. Whatever the reason is, it’s no secret that a lot of people abandon their pets.
While that’s bad enough, there’s a lot of people who choose to simply dump their animals outside instead of taking them to a shelter or finding a new home for them.
That recently happened in Massachusetts when two dogs were discovered tied to a picnic table.
The Sudbury Police Department took to Facebook to share about the discovery. They’re seeking the public’s help to find the dogs’ former owner.
They said, “The Sudbury Police Department along with our Animal Control Officer is seeking information about two dogs that were abandoned in the area of 30 Horse Pond Rd. Upon the arrival of the officer one dog was leashed and tied to a picnic table, the second was loose and appeared to have slipped out of the leash, as a second leash was found also secured to the table.”
They added that both dogs were “wet and exhausted” when officers found them. But they’re healthy and are now “safe and comfortable.”
The post explained that both dogs are male. One is a young Cocker Spaniel mix and the other is a Yorkshire Terrier. The police believe the dogs were abandoned and tied to table between 6:00 p.m. on June 27th and 7:00 a.m. on June 28th, 2023.
The police are asking if anyone recognizes the dogs or knows anything about their abandonment, to contact them at 978-897-5596. You can also reach them at POLICE@sudbury.ma.us.
