I’m not much of a bird person. My aunt had a cockatiel bird that used to scare me whenever I visited. Apparently, the bird liked me, but the feeling wasn’t mutual. I don’t know why, I just don’t like birds as pets. They seem a little shifty.
But, there is no denying that they can be pretty clever and it’s cool to see some of the neat tricks they can be taught. Like parrots – for example – can be taught to speak.
Years ago, we had a neighbor on the other side of the alley who had a parrot. We’re pretty sure the parrot’s name was Pancho, and he could speak certain phrases in Spanish – none of them suitable for translation, of course.
He had a particularly crude phrase that he’d like to say every morning from about 8 in the morning till about noon when he got moved inside the house. I never formally met Pancho, but he was quite something.
But in a much more G-rated version of parrot tricks, is the stylings of Tango the parrot. He is a Quaker parrot who happens to be a part of a family with a cat.
Diesel is Tango’s feline companion, and the two of them get along quite well. In fact, Diesel has been obsessed with Tango ever since he was a little kitten. As a result, the cat was never far away from the parrot’s cage, and this gave the owner an idea.
Their owner decided it would be funny to teach Tango Tweety Bird’s iconic phrase, “I tawt I taw puddy tat.” And based on the video clip, it was a very good move.
As the bird and cat’s owner explained to ViralHog, “Diesel is always near the cage and I just started saying “I tawt I saw puddy cat” when he showed up and Tango caught on.”
And we’re so glad that Tango took to the phrase because it is absolutely hilarious to watch!
Here’s a wonderful video of Tango imitating Tweedy Bird in the clip below:
