Welcoming a dog into your home and family is a big commitment. Dogs take a lot of work, love, and dedication, and sometimes, they’re more work than we initially expect. But they’re still part of the family, and they should be treated as such.

Some people aren’t the best pet owners, though, and they abandon their animals when the going gets tough. It’s the sad reality that many dogs face, including a little Double Merle Aussie named Aster Rose.

Aster Rose is an adorable puppy like any other, but she doesn’t have her sight or hearing.

In an interview with GeoBeats Animals, Rose’s new owner, Krysten, explained that when Aster’s first family realized she was blind and deaf, they took her to the vet and asked for her to be put down.

Thankfully, the vet had other ideas and refused to euthanize a perfectly healthy puppy. The vet recognized that blind and deaf dogs can live full and wonderful lives. The vet took the puppy and started reaching out to rescues for help. Finally, a rescue agreed to take both Aster and her sister.

Krysten ended up seeing a photo of little Aster through the rescue and applied to adopt her. Aster isn’t Krysten’s first dog with special needs. Around three years ago, she adopted Litte Buddy, another Double Merle Aussie who was blind and deaf.

Little Buddy was surrendered to the shelter when his owner no longer wanted him, and he spent over two years waiting for a family to want him.

Aster and Buddy quickly hit things off and became like family. Krysten said they have a family-like dynamic. Despite being completely blind and deaf, Aster still has an eagerness for life and she’s always trying to get Buddy to play with her.

Since she can’t see or hear, Krysten has to use touch to communicate with her and it seems to work perfectly for their family.
