Homeless and surrendered animals arrive almost daily at Louisiana shelters who are over capacity. That is why with your help, we are flying over 40 dogs out of the overcrowded shelter to freedom in New Jersey.
The Animal Rescue Site is sponsoring a Greater Good Charities’ Good Flight (called Flight to Freedom) on April 30th. The passengers on the flight will include dogs of all ages, sizes, and breeds.
Sadly, animal shelters across the country are seeing an increase in animal intakes and a decrease in adopters. Dogs and cats are spending more time in shelters, and some are at risk of euthanasia due to lack of space and loving homes.
We will continue to help save the lives of highly adoptable pets with our monthly Flight to Freedom. These life-saving flights are possible due to the hard work of shelter teams, volunteers, and your support.
Meet some of the pet passengers below who are patiently waiting for their one-way ticket to New Jersey and a new life.
Rosie and her puppies
Rosie arrived as a stray at St. Martin Parish Animal Shelter and staff noticed she was lactating. They were thankfully able to locate her puppies and reunited them with their mom. Rosie and her puppies (who are now old enough to find homes of their own) will board the Flight to Freedom and head to New Jersey for a fresh start.
Babee
Babee is an exuberant pup who loves everyone she meets. Jefferson Protection and Animal Welfare Services (JPAWS) shared with us, “Babee is a super playful, adorable pup, she doesn’t just try and stop and smell the flowers she also tries to eat them. She has enjoyed making doggy friends here at the shelter and loves getting attention from all the staff. We are so excited that she gets to punch her ticket to her forever home on the next flight out!”
Panda
This adorable husky is ready to find her adventure partner. The staff at Lafourche Parish Animal Shelter told us, “Panda is an adorable sweetheart who is ready to settle down with her forever family. She came in as a stray so unfortunately, we will never know her history. While at the shelter her personality has won over the staff, and we are so happy she was selected for this life-saving flight.”
Annie and Annabelle
These sweet beagle mixes arrived at St. Martin Parish Animal Shelter in Louisiana testing positive for heartworm disease. They have begun treatment and will continue their treatment in New Jersey through the Save a Heart Initiative before finding loving homes.
Bailey
Bailey was surrendered due to an unforeseeable circumstance with her original family. While in shelter she got the opportunity to spend time in a foster home with kids and other dogs and she is doing amazing. Her true happy go lucky personality has really shown through and she is being an amazing addition to the family. Her foster family was thrilled to hear she gets to catch the next flight to New Jersey and find her forever family.
