One lucky beagle mix was rescued from an abusive owner, but it wasn’t until he was 100 pounds and could no longer walk. Since being rescued, he’s not only gained his ability to walk back but he’s now running marathons!
The 4-year-old dog named Jameson spent the first years of his life with an elderly owner who only fed him ice cream and hamburgers, according to The Dodo.
Weighing in at over 100 pounds, poor Jameson’s knees gave out and he lost his ability to walk completely.
The obese pup was thankfully taken into a rescue and quickly found a temporary home with two foster parents, Erin and Chad.
Jameson desperately needed to lose weight but before they could dive into that, his knees needed to be addressed.

With the help of the rescue, Jameson received surgery on two of his knees and began the recovery process. He was put on a strict 600 calorie diet and slowly began to incorporate movement into his life, as his recovery allowed.
Eventually, Jameson was able to walk again! He continued in therapy and adhered to a strict exercise and diet regime which resulted in a 50+ pound weight loss over a year! By the end of his first year with his foster parents, Jameson was able to run a whole 5K marathon with Chad!
Now that Jameson has made such an incredible transformation, he’s ready to find his forever home. He’s available for adoption through Arizona Beagle Rescue and you can click here to learn more.
According to the rescue, Jameson’s ideal family will keep him on a strict 600 calorie diet so he can continue to lose weight and reach his goal of being around 40lbs. He’s also prone to skin infections which can require medicated baths and additional care.
They further noted that he doesn’t do well with children and would ideally be the only dog, though he may do ok with a larger-breed dog.
