U.S. Fish And Wildlife Service Strips Gray Wolves Of Endangered Species Act Protection
The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS) just announced they are striping gray wolves of their Endangered Species Act protection in the lower 48 states – and people are outraged. Mankind hunted, trapped, and poisoned gray wolves into near extinction with fewer than 1,000 remaining before the species was listed as endangered in 1974. It has taken over four decades for wolves to start to return to areas they once lived, but they are far from recovered. “Today, approximately 5500 wolves inhabit approximately 15% of their historic...
This Cat Brought Home An Unpaid Bill After Leaving Home For Three Days And Finding A Fish Shop
A pet cat in Thailand was missing for three days before coming back in arrears. According to Times Now News, the tabby cat found a shop with some particularly pleasing fish. Aunty May, owner of the shop, indulged the cat with three mackerel. Lest the cat’s owner assume these fish were on the house, Aunty May attached the “check” to the animal’s neck. “Your cat kept eyeing mackerels at my stall, so I gave her three,” the hand-written placard reads. It was addressed, “Aunty May from alley no.3.”...
New Video Shows 85 Murder Hornets Surviving Industrial Vacuum — They’re Still Alive!
Nature abhors a vacuum. Murder hornets don’t care for one too much either, but they’ll survive. And that’s the problem. Scientists in Washington have discovered that not even an industrial vacuum is powerful enough to destroy the Asian giant hornets now threatening pollinators in the Pacific Northwest. When they recently evacuated a swarm of 85 of the insects out of a tree in Blaine, WA, the scientists were amazed to find two days later, the hornets were still alive. A video showing the frantic hornets was posted to Facebook...
196 Dogs Rescued From South Korea Meat Trade Now Looking For Homes
Nearly 200 dogs recently rescued from the South Korean meat trade are now looking for new homes. The dogs were rescued through efforts organized by Humane Society International. “Since January 2015, we have been visiting a number of these farms learning more about the trade itself,” said Humane Society International’s Companion Animals Vice President Kelly O’Mera. “And we’ve shut down now 17 farms.” These farms offer little comfort to the dogs who are bread there to die. The abattoirs are often dark...

Students Save An Owl That Got Stuck In The Soccer Net At School
Although people around the world have been impacted by the pandemic, it is children who feel some of the greatest changes. Between distance learning and not being able to see their friends every day, life has been altered in the worst way. When students went to school one day, they went outside to check out the soccer field but they saw something that surprised them. It was a little owl that was stuck in the soccer net. Like many children, these kids love animals and they wanted to take care of this beautiful bird. That is when they got busy...
Neglected Ducks Living In Confinement See Water For The First Time
When it is raining outside and puddles are forming, you can hardly have a conversation without someone saying that it’s “nice weather for ducks.” After all, our feathered friends are at home in the water and if they don’t have water nearby, they aren’t living like ducks. Unfortunately, there are ducks that don’t get the opportunity to have a nice swim. Those birds are sometimes kept in cages, facing a life of being neglected or perhaps even abused. You could hardly call those small cages home, but it is the...
Dog Who Loves To Nap Finds The Perfect Spot To Snooze
I don’t know about you, but I love a great nap. When I’m able to fit one in the middle of the day, it makes my evening much better, and sometimes, it even carries over till the next morning. Of course, there is more to taking a nice nap than closing your eyes and sleeping for a few minutes. Just ask Nellie, the wiener dog. Her owner sees her taking a nap so often that she has even started an Instagram page about her! Nellie’s human says that she may sleep anywhere, but her favorite spot is to stretch out and spend some time...
Family Dog Is A Big Help When Little Girl Takes Down The Laundry
There are a couple of things we know about kids and I think they all share those traits. First of all, they hate doing chores, and secondly, they love animals. It seems that those two can go hand in hand, as we see with this story out of Brasil. Taysa had a chore to do. Her mother, Rhany Christo, asked her to go bring the mats inside. They were being dried on a line and she didn’t want them left on the ground. Fortunately, for Taysa, the family dog was there to help. Lassye wasn’t able to pull down the mats but she did stand there...
U.S. Navy SEAL’s K9 Longtime Partner Was Laid To Rest With A Heartfelt Tribute
The bonds forged in war are not easily broken, as former U.S. Navy SEAL Mike Ritland can attest to. The ex-soldier posted a very touching tribute on Facebook dedicated to his K-9 partner, Carlos. The elderly pup had passed away after 15 years – a life that Mike described as nothing short of amazing and a blessing to those who loved him. The duo were partners for many years. And once Carlos retired, Mike was able to adopt his buddy and the two of them had their happily ever after together. Carlos even would assist Mike at the program...
Mischievous Cat Floods The House After Learning How To Turn On The Sink
Cats can be such little pests at times. Sometimes it’s because they’ll wake you up in the middle of the night just to open up the bedroom door so they can ignore you and walk away. Other times, our cats will refuse to eat anything but one type of food, only to turn their nose up to it once you buy a whole case of it. But no matter what annoying little quirks our cats may possess, they’re still incredibly adorable. And as cat owners, we wouldn’t have it any other way. We love our pesky little felines no matter what...
How To Make An Advent Calendar For Your Pets
We’re well past Halloween at this point and we’re moving full steam ahead towards the Christmas season. The most wonderful time of the year is always full of good tiding and joy that we share with those we love. And that includes our pets. The Christmas season isn’t just for us to enjoy, but for our pets as well. It’s not the same if we don’t get them involved in the fun. And what better way to get our pups into the holiday spirit, than by making them their very own doggie advent calendar? We’ve all enjoyed...
Concerned Dog Watches On As Mom Tends To Injured Bird
Dogs have such pure hearts. We really don’t deserve them at times. And one sweet dog showed just how caring dogs can be after bringing home a bird in need of help. Elizabeth Houston shared a very touching story of her dog Charlie, a pit bull. The sweet and friendly pooch was rescued from a shelter two years prior. And since he arrived home, he showed that he had plenty of love in his heart for everybody that he met – including an injured bird. Houston noticed one day that a bird had flown into the window and stunned itself....
Dad Builds A Hot Tub In His Backyard So The Birds Can Stay Warm During Winter
With 2020 seeing many more of us stuck inside our homes, we’ve been getting much more acquainted with the visitors that hang around our back gardens. While we may not have paid attention to the birds before lockdown, we’ve probably gotten more in tune with what is happening outside in our backyards. It’s a whole ecosystem out there. And if you’ve been watching the dramas unfolding in your backyard, you’re not the only one. Loads of other people have been doing the same exact thing. They’ve been more and...
Hairless Opossum Needs Tiny Sweaters To Survive Winter
A hairless opossum living at a wildlife rehabilitation facility in Lubbock, Texas, is currently in need of clothes for winter. And as it turns out, the local community is showing a lot of support and solidarity for the little hairless creature. The executive director of the South Plains Wildlife Rehabilitation Center, Gail Barnes, explained to TODAY that she had initially mistaken then little hairless opossum for a hairless cat after it had been dropped off at their facility. The vet who examined the opossum diagnosed the critter, who turned...
Starving Newborn Baby Deer Runs Up To Woman And Starts Sucking On Her Leg
Newborn fawns spend most of their time hiding and only come out to nurse. People that stumble upon a hiding fawn are advised to leave it alone because the mother is usually nearby. But that wasn’t the case for a day-old baby deer in North Carolina. Amber Starr Westphal was out for a hike when a baby deer came running out of the woods whining. It ran straight up to her and immediately started to suck on her leg. Amber shocked and in awe said, “Where’s your mommy?” Screenshot: Instagram/amberwestphal54 The little piebald...
These ‘Rubbish’ Pet Portraits Raised Nearly $6,500 To Help The Homeless
If a picture is worth 1,000 words, an original Hercule Van Wolfwinkle is worth a good 750. But what the artist’s “rubbish” pet portraits lack in polish, they make up for in popularity. Sales of the portraits have raised almost $6,500 for a homeless charity, the BBC reports. Van Wolfwinkle, known by his family as Phil Heckles, was coloring pictures with his son one day when he attempted to draw their dog. It wasn’t the most flattering likeness, but Heckles posted it on Facebook anyway. He asked £299, about $387,...
‘Paws Across The Pacific’ Lands In Seattle, Flying 600 Hawaiian Shelter Pets To New Lives On Historic Flight
On Oct. 29, a rescue flight landed in Seattle with almost 600 shelter pets on board, both saving lives and setting records for the largest pet rescue flight in history. But ‘Paws Across the Pacific’ — which required months of planning and collaboration with relief agencies, rescues, and shelters in Hawaii and on the U.S. mainland – also wouldn’t be possible without Animal Rescue Site readers, who helped us fund flight expenses, showered Hawaiian shelters with critical supplies, and helped us provide 600 at-risk...
Australian Firefighters Released Their Annual 2021 Calendar To Help Animals Affected By The Wildfires
2020 has been one dumpster fire of a year, starting with the literal wildfires in Australia at the beginning of 2020 which decimated more than 18.6 million hectares of Australian land. While the fires might have been contained and extinguished, the devastation and the environmental repercussions that they’ve had will be with us for years to come. In the spirit of wanting to do something to help, there were plenty of firefighters ready and willing to participate in this year’s Australian Firefighters Calendar. The firefighters were...
San Antonio Proposed Ordinance Would Ban Pet Stores Sales From Dog Breeders
In San Antonio, a city ordinance is being proposed that would restrict dogs and cats from being sold in San Antonio pet stores. It isn’t placing restrictions on all pet sales, just those that come from breeders. The City Council is planning on taking up the ordinance on October 29. Any pet store within the city limits could only sell dogs or cats they get through animal rescue organizations, animal control agencies, or county/city animal shelters. If a pet store is in violation of the ordinance, the minimum penalty is between $100 and...
