He Was Sick & Had A Fractured Pelvis, But His Owners Continued To Ignore Him

Looking at Gigi today, you would never believe the extremely rough life he has lived until recently. Surrendered to Sidewalk Specials on a handbag strap instead of a leash, Gigi was suffering from tick bite fever, horrible mange, and a fractured pelvis. Photo: YouTube/Sidewalk Specials His owners simple didn’t want him anymore, so they neglected him and ignored him. Although he was hurt and in pain, they never got him medical attention or the care he needed. He was practically sitting there in misery, waiting to die. Thankfully, he...

A yearling humpback whale off the coast of Hawaii found itself in a life-threatening entanglement in mooring gear. Photo: YouTube/Inside Edition A small-gauge line was wrapped around the whale’s tail and fins, with the heavy plastic buoy floating behind it. Keeping your dog’s eyes healthy

While many canine eye diseases are “silent”, a rudimentary understanding of eye anatomy, and some of the signs and symptoms to look for, can help you keep your dog’s eyes healthy. When you gaze into your dog’s eyes, you connect with his or her soul. But while you gaze, can you tell if he or she might have an eye problem? The answer is: usually not. Dogs will instinctively try to hide pain, including eye pain, and if they become blind in one eye they will shift to using the remaining eye. Dogs need to lose at least 80%...

After Being Slaughtered For Chinese Medicine, Brazil’s Donkeys Finally Get “Stay Of Execution”

It’s not easy being a donkey, whose hard work is often rewarded with abuse, neglect, and exploitation. Not only are donkeys overworked, underfed, and often forced to work in cruel conditions, now they’re also being slaughtered for their skins, which are used to make ejiao, a type of traditional Chinese medicine. And unfortunately for donkeys, as well as everyone who depends on them for work and transportation, demand for ejiao is booming. South Carolina Shelter Creates Bucket List For Terminally Ill Dog Abandoned At Shelter

The Humane Society of North Myrtle Beach is making sure a terminally ill dog named Teddy goes on as many adventures as possible with what time he has left. The senior dog was found abandoned outside the shelter in July with a large mass that turned out to be cancer. “We came in one morning, heard some barking and he was out there,” Meaghan Pitman, the shelter’s marketing manager, told WSAV. “We noticed there was some sort of mass on his back end, and when that was examined by our vet, unfortunately, it was diagnosed as...

Judge Restores Protections for Gray Wolves That Had Been Removed By Trump Administration

As concern over the recovery of gray wolves mounts, a judge has restored federal protections for the species. The protections, which had been removed just before former President Donald Trump left office, impact wolves in 44 states. U.S. District Judge Jeffrey White in Oakland, California, has ruled that the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service failed to show that wolf populations could be sustained in the Midwest and portions of the West without protection under the Endangered Species Act. White added that the USFWS did not give enough...

Blind Cat Rescued After a Year of Waiting for a Forever Home

This story was originally shared on The Animal Rescue Site. Submit your own rescue story here. Your story just might be the next to be featured on our blog! I first met Moet when I went to the vet one day for the usual supplies and was asking about getting another cat or kitten. As they knew me well and also knew my love of cats and care for them, they said they had a 1-year-old blind cat up for adoption, but that it wouldn’t be advertised because they wanted just the ‘right’ owner for her. My instant reaction was that I...

But they refused to give up and rushed him to the emergency clinic. Posted by Richmond Animal Care...

The Best Way To Observe World Spay Day This February (And Throughout The Year)

The average female cat can give birth to a litter of about six kittens five times per year. That means about 30 kittens per year born to just one unspayed mother cat, the University Veterinary Care Center reports. According to American Humane, the failure to spay and neuter dogs and cats is responsible for millions of unwanted animals living on the streets without homes or food or being killed in shelters all over the world. All cats and dogs adopted from public or private animal care and control facilities should be spayed or neutered. Each...
