Ways to Manage Mange
We’ve all heard the term “mangy mutt.” But do you know what mange actually is and how it can affect your dog? Mange is a general term for two specific skin diseases of dogs caused by mites. These mites cause hair loss, sometimes intense itching and secondary skin infections. Only two types affect dogs — demodectic mange and sarcoptic mange. ✤ Demodectic mange, sometimes called “red mange,” is caused by the Demodex mite, a small, cigar-shaped parasite with eight legs that lives in the hair follicles....

In 1999, we rescued two feral kittens, Tiki and her sister, Garfi. In 2013, I was reading a book and Tiki was sleeping on my lap. She woke up and started to knead my left breast, which she had never done before. She was very gentle and it didn’t hurt, so I let her continue. This went on for about 15 minutes, and Tiki had this very intense look on her face. Suddenly, I felt this...

Life just got a little better for egg-laying hens in Arizona. They will no longer live in tiny cages, known as battery cages, and will finally be able to spread their wings, peck, and socialize. The man’s nephew posted about the incident in a now-private tweet and it quickly went viral. Photo:...
