Bill Prohibiting the Declawing of Cats in Illinois Passed State House
The stage has been set for the state of Illinois to become part of the growing trend to ban the controversial procedure known as cat declawing, and animal activists couldn’t be happier. If enacted, the proposed bill would essentially make it illegal to declaw cats outside of an established therapeutic purpose. While it passed the Illinois House recently, this does not make it a law yet. In order for that to happen, it will need the approval of the Illinois Senate, which will be viewing it for further consideration. Photo: Pixabay/birgl...

It’s been an exciting few months for zoos across the U.S. as cubs of vulnerable or endangered species are being born. This is terrific news for conservationists working against the clock to save animals teetering on the brink of extinction. Yesterday, it was announced by the San Diego Zoo that twin Amur leopard cubs had been born at the facility, which is a major boon for the world’s most endangered big cat species anywhere on the planet. Help Lacey Live Cancer-Free
Cherished Tails Senior Sanctuary rescues dogs from kill shelters in Arizona and surrounding states to give them the second chance they deserve. They recently took in Lacey who was at a local animal control with a large ulcerated mammary mass on her belly. The 5-year-old Chihuahua mix was at risk of euthanasia due to the mass, but the sanctuary saved her. However, she needed immediate surgery. She was rushed to an urgent care vet, who is also an oncologist, to remove the large mass. Photo: Cherished Tails Senior Sanctuary The sanctuary then...

Animal Advocates Need to Be Housing Advocates, Too
According to the National Low Income Housing Coalition, there is not a single state in the country with enough affordable and available rental housing for extremely low-income families. In the context of affordable housing, low-income families are those making less than 80% of Area Median Income. And these numbers do not even consider pet-inclusive housing, which is even less likely to be readily available for low-income renters. It is no wonder that for years, housing issues have been cited as one of the top two reasons for pet...
Sauvetage Animal Rescue Found and Helped a Family of Bunnies Trapped in a Storm Grate
Small animals usually have the hardest time adjusting to nearby civilized areas. They often find themselves stuck in pipes, between house walls, trash bins, and more. Due to their size, their situation is unnoticeable, especially in secluded places. But if you find one, it’s best to give them a hand or call for authorities or rescue teams, primarily when it’s a wild animal. The animal should be checked by a vet and be given treatments, especially if you’re unsure of how long they have been trapped. Also, they often acquire...
Dedicated Foster Dad Carries Tired Mama Dog To Bed Every Night
Ask any mother, and they will tell you, raising children is hard work. It’s difficult enough to raise one child, but imagine if you had eight newborns to care for. I’m not talking about Octomom. I’m talking about Cholula, a pit bull who was rescued along with her puppies. Photo: YouTube/The Dodo According to The Dodo, it all started when Thom and Alisha went to their local animal rescue to foster a dog. They probably had envisioned bringing home a puppy or perhaps a young dog that needed some TLC, but they had no idea they...
Water-Loving Labrador Gets His Dream Trip To The Water Park
Labrador retrievers are some of the most amazing dogs in the world. They make great family pets, but they also appreciate getting out for a good run every once in a while. Labradors were bred to be in the water. Many people have them in a home, and they never get the chance to swim, but that may change if they see this video of Maximilian. Photo: YouTube/The Dodo Maximilian is a labrador that is obsessed with being in the water. When his owners took him out to a lake, he immediately jumped into the water and dived to the bottom. According to...

When Maria Montes looked out her window, she was shocked by what she saw: Her neighbors were moving out, but they intentionally left their cat behind! In July 2020, Maria took to TikTok to share that about her heartless neighbors. Photo: TikTok/@mariamontes862 They didn’t even bother finding a new home for him, they simply left him behind as they drove away. You can watch the moment they drove away in the clip below: @mariamontes862 #catsoftiktok #anomallover #fyp #pets ♬ All I Want – Kodaline In an interview with The Dodo,...
Disney’s Favorite Dog Shows You Where You Can Leave Your Service Dogs When You Need To Go On A Ride
One should spend a day at Disney free of worries and care. But not everyone can afford to do that. Especially if, for example, you brought your kids with you that need monitoring at all times or if you, yourself, are in need of monitoring. PHOTO: Unsplash/Amy Humphries It’s not a bad thing, don’t get me wrong. But having these factors can lessen the experience of being in the happiest place on Earth since you can’t just let go and bring out the child in you. It shouldn’t hinder you much and if you really need some...
Self-Proclaimed “Dog Person” Falls In Love With Three-Legged Rescue Kitten
“Are you a dog person or a cat person?” It’s a typical question asked among animal lovers. Personally, I’ve never liked the question much, myself. I like dogs and cats for different reasons and find it hard to choose one over the other. Some people are die-hard “cat people” or “dog people” though, including a man from Boston, BA. He may have started as a dog person, but after meeting a tiny kitten named Mochi, his heart melted. Photo: YouTube/GeoBeats Animals According to GeoBeats Animals,...

Up until that point, they spent most of their time inside being monitored by animal care staff via a Cub Cam to allow their momma the opportunity to care for...
When Woman Goes on Mental Health Break From Work, Stray Cat and Kittens Show Up at Her Home
This story was originally shared on The Animal Rescue Site. Submit your own rescue story here. Your story just might be the next to be featured on our blog! In August of 2020 after my return to work from COVID shutdown, I had to take a “spur of the moment” mental health vacation from work. I had two weeks to get my head straight and see if I wanted to stay in my job, as there had been so many changes to what I loved due to COVID. On my first day of “relaxation”, a stray cat, whom I had been feeding, showed up on my...
News on Urban Wildlife: Three Baby Raccoons Get Rescued and Reunited with Thankful Momma
From prairies, forests, and marshes, raccoons are now also a common sight in cities. They are among the wildlife that have invaded urban areas and adapted well to their new homes. Now, humans must learn to co-exist with these animals although it remains very difficult for many people due to the dangers they pose, diseases they can spread, and damages they can incur on properties. Photo: Tiktok/gateswildlifecontrol Raccoons with their bandit look appear adorable and cuddly. But experts do not advise people to keep them as pets, much less feed...
Inseparable Kitten Sibs Need Forever Home with Like-Minded Snuggler
It’s common knowledge cats are a lot more independent than dogs and therefore, not always as needy for attention via cuddles and hugs. For many people, it’s part of the allure of what might be considered a lower-maintenance pet. But that’s not how all feline fanciers roll. Some folks want cuddle bugs rather than an indifferent housemate that might view their frequent attempts to bond with disdain. If you dream of having snuggly kitties, then you may have just found them. Meet Sherbet and Sorbet, a couple of super sweet...

Overcrowded Animal Shelters: What You Can Do to Help Rescue Dogs in 2023
This year has begun badly for rescue dogs, particularly large-breed rescues. “Overcrowded animal shelters are turning away owners wanting to surrender their dogs because there is no room,” says Maria Dales, founder and director of California’s German Shepherd Rescue of Orange County. “With nowhere to take their unwanted dogs, owners seek the help of rescue groups; when rescues can’t help, there are no options left. We can’t ‘rescue’ ourselves out of this situation.” The best thing you can...
Why Dogs Need Variety in Their Food
Rotational Feeding Gives Them the Nutrition They Need It’s long been the advice of choice to put your dog on one food and keep her on it for her lifetime. But what if that isn’t exactly accurate? It is true that dogs who have been fed the same food for many years can experience stomach upset when abruptly changing their diet. But it is also true that feeding them the same meat and other ingredients day after day means your dog is not getting the wide range of amino acids and nutrients necessary for optimum health. Can You Switch...
