On September 22, 2020 Real Pet Food Company issued a voluntary recall of Billy+Margot Wild Kangaroo and Superfoods Recipe because of the potential to be contaminated with Salmonella.
Salmonella can affect animals eating the products and there is a risk to humans from handling contaminated pet products, especially if they have not thoroughly washed their hands after having contact with the products or any surfaces exposed to these products.
Salmonella was the cause of multiple recalls last year.
What Is Recalled?
Billy+Margot Wild Kangaroo and Superfoods Recipe 4lb bags
The recalled food has lot code V 07 Feb 2022.
The brand is sold nationwide and all retailers have been asked to remove the affected lot from their shelves immediately. The recall is only for the specified food and doesn’t affect other Billy+Margot products.
The recall said, “If you have purchased Billy+Margot Wild Kangaroo and Superfoods Recipe in a 4 lb bag, with lot code V 07 Feb 2022 from any retail store nationally, please stop feeding the product to your dogs, dispose of this product immediately, wash your hands accordingly, and sanitize affected surfaces.”
Routine testing by state officials found the bacteria in a bag of the food, which led to the recall. No illnesses have been reported, but the company decided to issue a voluntary recall.
Symptoms Of Salmonella In Pets
– lethargy
– diarrhea or bloody diarrhea
– fever
– vomiting
– decreased appetite
– abdominal pain
Pets that are infected can be carriers and pass it on to other animals and humans. If you have fed any of the recalled product and your pet is showing any of the above symptoms, call your vet immediately.
What To Do
If you have purchased this food and the lot number matches the recall, stop feeding immediately.
Consumers who have purchased the recalled food are instructed to dispose of it and wash their hands and all surfaces.
Consumers can contact Real Pet Food between 8 am and 10 pm EST at (800) 467-5494 for a full refund.
