On March 26, 2021, Midwestern Pet Foods issued a voluntary recall of multiple brands of dog and cat food due to a possible salmonella contamination at their production facility in Monmouth, Illinois.

The recall was initiated after the company discovered the possible contamination during a routine sampling program. No illnesses have been reported.

Salmonella can affect animals eating the products and there is a risk to humans from handling contaminated pet products, especially if they have not thoroughly washed their hands after having contact with the products or any surfaces exposed to these products.

Salmonella was the cause of multiple recalls last year.
