That thrill turned to sadness when Payday, their lovable, long-haired dog, vanished. They searched and followed up leads, but as days turned into weeks, then months and years, they lost hope.
Two years after Payday went missing, Dwight was letting the TV play idly as he wound down for the night. The following morning, he was woken up by the FOX6 news morning broadcast, just in time to see their regular “adopt-a-pet” segment.

“Dwight normally turns off his TV every night but must have left it on by accident – or perhaps thanks to fate. It only took one glance at the picture for Dwight to immediately recognize Payday, his long-lost pup who had gone missing nearly two years ago!” The Wisconsin Humane Society wrote in a Facebook post.
Dwight immediately called the FOX6 number for “adopt-a-pet” and got in touch with the station. They forwarded him to the Wisconsin Humane Society, where Payday was waiting to find his next home.
The post continues, “Thanks to FOX6’s swift action, Payday was reunited with his family at the WHS Milwaukee Campus that same afternoon.”
Dwight and Melissa’s daughter, now 12 years old, was thrilled to have her best friend back. While time had passed since his disappearance, she had still been hurt by the loss and was overjoyed that he was still alive.
The Wisconsin Humane Society shared footage of Payday’s joyous reunion with his family on their Facebook page, along with more information about the whole story. It was the most unlikely series of events and one that they never saw coming.
Fortunately, it was all working towards a happy reunion for the family. Watch the full video below!
