Miranda Lambert’s two biggest passions are music and mutts, and it shows. She puts her heart and soul into her songs and into helping shelter dogs find forever homes.

MuttNation Foundation, which Lambert founded with her mom in 2009, just announced that this year’s campaign will focus on harder-to-adopt shelter dogs. “This year, MuttNation will be raising awareness for those shelter pets that are so easy to love, but sometimes have a harder time getting adopted.”

Lambert is asking people to “Love Harder” by adopting seniors, special needs, black dogs, and pit bulls. These dogs are often passed by for puppies and young dogs.

Dogs that fall into these categories make amazing pets.

Senior dogs have so much love to give and deserve a loving home to spend the rest of their days. They also teach us to slow down and enjoy the little things in life.

Special Needs

Dogs with special needs are missing a limb, blind, deaf, or have a medical issue. “Dogs are so incredible at adapting, in many cases they’ll get around like any other dog. Dogs with special needs make an extra special bond with you,” states MuttNation.

Many people pass on this breed because they think they are aggressive, but anyone who has ever owned a pit bull knows they are loyal and loving companions.

Black Dogs

The foundation said it perfectly, “Color has no influence over a dog’s personality, and black fur hides on clothes and furniture way easier than white fur!”

Lambert kicked off the campaign by sitting down with her music “SHEro” and fellow animal lover, Emmylou Harris. Harris just adopted a senior dog named Jeter and shared all the joy he has brought to her life.

“My heart is really with the older dogs. I don’t want to see them lying in a shelter. I believe every dog deserves to live, how many years they have, in a loving home with care – because they give us so much,” Harris said in her chat with Lambert.

Harris started Bonaparte’s Retreat (named after her one of her beloved dogs), which is a small foster-based dog rescue in Tennessee. They focus on “the neglected and forgotten—senior dogs, large dogs, or dogs in need of imminent medical care or surgery.”

Lambert shared her experience with senior dogs and recalled how it “is a different kind of bond” and one to be cherished. She recently lost her “old pal” of thirteen years, Waylon.
