Meet Millie, aka Grammy. She’s a spayed pittie that weighs about 55 pounds and is believed to be about 3 years old. But that’s the boring stuff, so let’s get to the meat and potatoes of this love nugget’s story.
Currently housed at Pima Animal Care Center in Tucson, she got a chance to stay in foster care for about a month, and her person there was able to share some helpful insights into her.
“Millie was super sweet, cuddly, and affectionate with me. She bonded with me right away and wanted to be by my side at all times (she did already know me since I had walked her regularly for many months). She needed a long time to decompress, but she soon started to relax and show her happy, playful side.
“She loved chewing on and de-stuffing soft stuffed toys and would occasionally chase a tennis ball. She loved cuddling with me on the couch, and she would constantly flop down for belly rubs. She enjoyed snoozing in the sun and would quietly nap or play with her toys in my office when I worked from home. She also seemed to enjoy car rides and would just sit quietly in the backseat looking out the window.
“Millie will need time to warm up to new people, as she was wary of my boyfriend throughout the month she was with us. Millie also does not love to be left alone, so we started to work on crate training. I never left her in the crate for long, but would give her treats and lots of “yes, good girl!” every time she went in the crate. When closing her in it, I would give her toys, a treat-filled Kong, or a lick mat. She will definitely need more help working on her comfort in the crate.
“Overall, I think Millie would do best in a calm, quiet home where someone is home a lot. She needs someone who can be patient and understanding of her timid nature and continue to work with her on crate-training and building confidence. Once she trusts you though, she is so sweet and loving – it is absolutely worth taking the time to win her trust.”
Here’s what Millie’s shelter friends (volunteers) have said about her:
“I’m in love!! Millie is a sweet pea love bug who was so happy to be out on a walk. She’s a beauty with a positive spirit and friendly demeanor.”
“Millie is an absolute cuddle bug sweetheart. She will be a great companion for someone who wants a cuddly affectionate lapdog!”
“Millie is a silly, snuggly girl — this lady is a lover who just wants to be right near her person and get all the cuddles.”
Those are some pretty terrific endorsements from the people who have spent time with her. Millie has shared her kennel with a furry friend and would like to meet any resident dogs before heading home to make sure it’s a good fit. She’s been at the shelter since July 12, 2022, and is more than ready to go home today!
If you are interested in adopting or fostering her, please email pacc.adopt@pima.gov for an application or with any additional questions. She’s in Kennel D184, and her ID# is A783125.
