The 28-year-old singer and songwriter, took to Instagram to announce the passing of her beloved pit bull mix Mary Jane.
Miley Cyrus adopted Mary Jane in 2012 and the two have been inseparable ever since. Cyrus called the sweet pup her “best friend” and is now lost without her. “She has come to my rescue every time my heart has been broken. Put me back together again. Going thru this pain without her magic power is so lonely.”
Mary Jane had been battling cancer for the past year and Cyrus cherished every moment they had together.
She wrote, “In life it is easy to take things for granted. To let little miracles pass you by without moments of gratitude. To be oblivious when the rays of heaven shine down onto you. But when it came to my ANGEL Mary Jane… never once did I forget the gift I had been given. She made it impossible to. She was a dog with wings in a way.”
Cyrus wrote a song about her sweet pup years ago, and shared it again on social media along with a collection of photos of the pair throughout the years.
“Music is my medicine. This song revolves around loss & heartache. Which I am currently experiencing after Mary Jane’s passing,” she posted.
“MJ was a true queen. She wore her grace, dignity & kindness like a crown. She will never be forgotten and will forever be missed. To know her is to love her. It has been my honor being her mom and best friend.”
When the time came to say goodbye, Cyrus held Mary Jane close and said, “I thanked her repeatedly as she took her last breath for who and what she has been to me. It was something more than a friend or family member. Something so different. You can’t define it. Our connection was purely DIVINE. An incomparable love.
“This time it was my duty to return all her favors and keep her comfortable, happy, & free of any pain for as long as possible… she has always done that for me. She is no longer hurting but I am. That’s what love is.’

She concluded the heartfelt tribute by saying, “Mary Jane passed with grace, dignity, peace, & power. She lived by the golden rule of kindness and compassion towards all. She was strong when she needed to be but never for to(o) long. She would never let her soul close. She lived so open. To love and be loved. If only we were all more like Mary Jane.”
